Guest Blog Post on Creativity!

A Great post by ToLiveInspired’s Blog.
Lately I’ve found myself in what I call a “creative slump.” I have ideas floating around in my head, but I just can’t seem to make them happen. Where do I start?
This blog post by ToLiveInspired is all about Creativity and why we sometimes feel like we don’t have a creative bone in our bodies.

To Live Inspired

Hey Inspiring Souls! It’s Coaching Q & A time again!!

Q: I really feel the pull to do something creative, but I just think I may be one of those people who is just not creative. The things I have tried are just not as good as they should be. It’s discouraging, how do I start to find my creative voice, or am I just better off giving up that idea and moving on?

A: Let me start with this: You are creative, you were born that way. We just lose sight of what that looks like as we get older. Most times when we are young we don’t struggle to make sure our forts and imaginary friends are as good as other people’s, but as we grow up we get so stuck in comparing and looking at how things “should” be that we lose sight of own creative voices…

Crafter’s Block?

I finished my socks for my mom and they came out beautifully!  I’m so excited to give them to her this weekend for her birthday.  Now that they’re done, I don’t know what to knit next! I have a cardigan that needs a button band, but it needs to be re-blocked and I kind of lost my mojo with that cardigan.

I have no doubt that when this cardigan is finally finished it will be my favourite.  At least, that’s what everyone is telling me, haha.  The pattern is Central Park Hoodie from Interweave Knits.
I have some really beautiful yarn sitting in my yarn closet that I can’t wait to use. I’ve thought about shawls, or hats, and I’m even considering starting on another pair of socks. I don’t know. Nothing seems to be jumping out at me. Do any of you crafters our there experience this? If so, how do you get past it?

Current Projects.

Here’s a little bit about what I’m currently working on.  I don’t know about many of you, but I’m notorious for having multiple projects going on at the same time and often starting new projects before previous ones have been completed.  However, I haven’t met a crafter or artist yet that isn’t the same way!  On to the projects!

First up, is a pair of socks I’m working on for my mom.   I’ve become obsessed with knitting socks lately and just finished a pair for my boyfriend’s mom, who absolutely loved them.  Sadly, I forgot to take pictures of those socks to post.  Just so happens that they are made with the same pattern as the ones for my mom (except N’s mom’s are pretty greens)!

The yarn is from Etsy seller Black Sheep Dyeworks and the yarn is in the Wisteria  Multi colorway (N’s mom’s are in their Ink Multi colorway).   The yarn is 100% superwash merino wool and so, so, so soft!
The pattern is Seaweed Socks from Wendy over at Wendy Knits.

What I liked most about this pattern is that it is available in a women’s size small. Most sock patterns are written for the average woman’s foot, which is about a US size 8. My mom, N’s mom, and I are about a woman’s 5-6 US. N’s mom and I can even wear some children’s shoes! I have learned how to size down different types of sock patterns, but I was thrilled that someone had thought of us smaller footed females and did the work already! Not only does it come in a lady’s small but it’s also very lovely and easy to remember!

Next is an art journal that I started at the beginning of the month kind of as a New Year’s Resolution. I tend to get a little … distracted when it comes to keeping up with doing something every day. I made a promise to myself that I will work on this journal every day, even if it’s just a little doodle. I have to do something with every day. So for so good and I’ve been able to keep my promise!

Next, after my quest of trying to find a recipe binder and searching through different sites, I couldn’t find anything that I liked good enough to spend $30 or more on. I also really didn’t want to use index cards, even the really cute recipe cards, because I have a hard time writing small enough to fit everything on those cards and have it legible at the same time. My solution? I’m going to make one myself! I bought a 5.5″x8.5″ binder, some page protectors, dividers to get me started.
I was going to use regular lined paper, but I want it to be more special and have it suit me. I plan on making my own recipe pages, but here’s where I am a little stuck. I’m thinking Illustrator may be the best place for this project, but I’m not really sure. Also, does anyone know of the best way, or even a good way, to put writing lines into the paper? Can any of you more graphically, digitally scrapbook-y inclined people help me out?

Lastly, I’m working on personalizing the bog’s banner.

Hello and Welcome!

This is a new blog centered around creativity and art. At first I was going to use this as a way to post and keep myself going with my own art projects, but the more I think about it, the more I want to expand on that. Here’s some of the things I will be including on this blog.

1. My own stuff, which will be a wide range of things from DIY projects, to Pinterest for potentional projects, my art journal, doodles, perhaps even a serious art project or two, some photography, etc. Anything goes, really.

2. Product reviews of different materials, tools, pens, markers, etc.

3. Features of other artists, crafters, DIYers, etc.

4. Maybe some guest posts? Hopefully…?

I can’t wait to get this all started!
